About the Author
Meet J D Burns
J D Burns is the literary pen name of this author used to separate her written works of fiction from her professional life. The name is an homage to her late Nan, who always encouraged her creative side.
J D Burns was the first in her family to attain A Levels and attend university. Her childhood was marked by adversity and abuse, experiences that shaped her resilience and continue to influence the emotional depth of her work. This has often led to battles with her mental health in the way of depression, anxiety and CPTSD. She has known suffering and hopes to deal with these matters sensitively within her work.
In her day job, J D Burns runs a successful law firm specialising in Private Client matters, supporting older and vulnerable individuals. She writes in her spare time as a form of escapism and creative outlet.
J D Burns’ first love has always been literature and as an autistic child it became a special interest. Since a young age, she would spend hours engrossed in a new world and stories of adversity and triumph.
J D Burns took her love and gift of English Literature and used it to tutor students in her free time. She inspired many young minds with a newfound love of Shakespeare and the classics. She did this for over 15 years, only stopping when the demands of running her own law firm became too time-consuming.
J D Burns has always been filled with detailed stories of other worlds but has struggled in the past to get them down in writing. It wasn’t until she underwent three years of intensive therapy that she finally felt she found her voice. Secrets of Obsidian is her debut novel.
In her free time, J D Burns enjoys a good pub, watching the rugby and singing karaoke with her friends. Her favourite show is Schitt’s Creek, her favourite play is Hamilton and her favourite book series is Throne of Glass. She prefers coffee to tea, sweets to chocolate and starters over desserts.
J D Burns is often referred to as an ally as she uses her platform to support marginalised groups and spread awareness about important topics. She is pro LGBTQIA+ rights, supports Black Lives Matter, believes trans rights are human rights, is firmly feminist, supports rights to choose and bodily autonomy, and aims for equity over equality. She believes everyone deserves the right to live their life in peace and quiet enjoyment.
